On Saturday Night, Greentop ran its first Circus North Scratch Night. Scratch nights can be by definition a mixed bag, allowing performers to try out finished and unfinished pieces. However the Hot House performers excelled on Saturday and the end result was polished and entertaining.
Artists who attended last year's Hot House performance training came together to try out their new acts at the Circus North Scratch night. The show featured several different acts who have progressed through the Hot House free performance training scheme. Rather than singly demonstrating amazing skills the Hot House project encourages performers to focus on performance, character and storytelling.
A character called Uncle Taco compered the event, which kicked off with the Littler Wonder comedy duo rolling globe act; a collaboration between Molly Orange and Circus Diaspora. This was followed by Madame Zucccini’s organic vegetable puppet show and then a brilliant interactive comedy and puppetry show by Beano and Bunny, based on the tale of the Stone Soup. Madame Zuccini then returned as Mrs Turnip. The show also featured Elly Pierce’s comedy musical stage debut on the accordion.
