Come and train in Sheffield! Sheffield is a Circus City, and has a thriving circus arts scene. We encourage practising or aspiring artists to come to Sheffield and make use of our incredible facilities.
Providing a professional training space for artists and performers is an essential part of Greentop’s work. The Centre is based in a converted Victorian Church building, which gives us the ideal height for trapeze and other aerial activities. We have the only permanent aerial rig in the region, custom fitted into the roof, including a fixed swinging trapeze rig. Greentop’s volunteers and staff work hard to run other activities which subsidise the cost of private training which costs just £1 an hour.
Times and availability-
Training is possible at times not booked for workshops and events. Please check our online calendar to keep you up-to-date with the available training times.
The centre is staffed and available from 9 to 5 each weekday. Private training is permitted outside of office hours, when access to the building is by arrangement with key holders.
To train on equipment which uses a large proportion of the space- for example, Chinese Pole, Swinging Trapeze/ Cloud Swing- you may reserve space for this, which should be done at least one week in advance and be before 11am or after 4pm. This is to help ensure availability of space for other artists to train.
The safety of our centre users is very important to us- for your own safety, you must attend an induction session to ensure you understand the facilities available, can make yourself at home here and also to ensure you understand basic safety precautions. We may ask artists to provide documentation to ensure you have the experience and ability to train safely, for example equity membership, risk assessments, and liability insurance.
The centre is heated, there is a kitchen area for basic food preparation and making drinks etc, wi-fi access and a CD player, and if you utilise these facilities we ask that, in addition to your £1 per hour you make a donation to help cover the costs of drinks, electricity etc.
If professional performers wish to train on their own equipment in the centre, they need to contact Greentop first to organise this. If you need personal aerial equipment rigging, we might need a little notice- there is limited space on the rig, and often a waiting list for this service- but we’ll try to help!
