Swinging Trapeze with Mike Wright Saturday February 26 2010- Sunday 27 11am – 6pm

An opportunity to train with an expert swinging trapeze teacher at your own level and pace, learn new moves, develop your range, and improve your techniques under the tutor’s expert eye. Aerial Hoop and Silks

Saturday January 29, Saturday April 2, 11am – 4pm

Learn and practice climbs, locks, drops, moves and sequences on silks. Look at ways of using aerial hoop including low swinging, spinning, transitions and balances. Some previous aerial experience and upper body strength is required. This workshop will focus on good technique, conditioning and elements of performance with the equipment.

Chinese Pole

Sunday January 30, March 27, 11am – 4pm 

Learn and practice climbs, locks, drops, and sequences, static and dynamic moves on the Chinese pole. This workshop will focus on good technique, conditioning and elements of performance with the equipment. Some previous aerial or pole experience and upper body strength is required. Emily Rose an experienced aerial theatre, Chinese pole artist and teacher who leads a fun action packed session.

Beginners Trapeze

Saturday February 5, March 19, April 16, 11am - 4pm

An introduction to this exciting circus art, including: warm up, body conditioning, rope work, moves on and under the bar and some transitions. This workshop is suitable for adult beginners - no experience necessary. This workshop is also a good basis for further training in aerial silks and rope work in subsequent workshops.

Second Swinging Sunday

Sunday January 16, Sunday February 13, 11am – 5pm 

Swinging Trapeze Sunday Sessions led by an experienced trapeze tutor. Learn new techniques and improve existing skills, try moves on and under the bar, from standing and sitting and experience the thrill and the freedom of being weightless.  For beginners to more advanced students - open to everyone with some aerial experience and a reasonable level of fitness and a good head for heights.

Intermediate Trapeze and Corde Lisse

Saturday Feb. 12, Sunday April 3, 11am – 4pm 

Learn more advanced static trapeze moves, techniques and sequences then try the beautiful, graceful yet dynamic aerial silks. Learn climbing techniques, locks, hangs and more dynamic moves.

Acro Yoga with Justin Philpott • 11am - 4pm - May 1-2 & July 17-18

AcroYoga blends the spiritual wisdom of yoga, the loving kindness of Thai massage, and the dynamic power of Acrobatics. These three ancient lineages form this practice that cultivates trust, connection and playfulness. There are 7 main elements that make up the practice: circle ceremony, asana, partner flow, Thai massage, therapeutic flying, inversions & spotting, and partner acrobatics.

Aerial Straps with Nikolaj Munk • 11am – 4pm, June 27

An opportunity to explore this unique aerial discipline - a physical demanding apparatus that gives a good understanding of your body in the air. Straps mainly work with your upper body and are ideal for advanced aerialists of any discipline.

This is an intensive 4-day workshop aimed at all acrobatic levels from beginner to professional. The intensive will cover tumbling, mini-trampoline and adagio. Marcelo is an acrobatic performer and teacher and a specialist stuntman with over 20 years experience.

Intermediate Trapeze and Corde lisse • 11am – 4pm, June 5

Climbs, locks, hangs, balances and drops. Good technique, transitions, sequences, conditioning and how to progress will be covered. This is a good opportunity to expand your aerial repertoire and learn a new way of moving in the air on this diverse and challenging piece of equipment. Come prepared for a day of good challenges and hard work! Some aerial experience and fitness required. Claire Crook is an experienced aerial performer and teacher specialising in Corde lisse.

Contact Improvisation with Kate Dymoke • 11am – 4pm, July 6 – July 9

Contact improvisation (CI) is a movement form that is based in Yoga, Gymnastics, Aikido and Dance.  These elements make it accessible, full of somatic information and references to improve body awareness and usable in both training and performance contexts.  It is a mostly done as a duet form involving physical contact, weight bearing, supporting and being open to the moment to sustain fluidity, trust and ease. Over the four days we will work from the floor to standing and move towards more dynamic lifting and falling, working with gravity, against gravity, and with the surface of the floor and your body.  Towards the fourth day we will look at performative aspects of CI as an improvised dance/movement form adaptable to other surfaces, dimensions and inversions!

Aerial Dance with Gerry Turvey • 11am - 4pm, June 12 & 13

Aerial Dance Workshop with Gerry Turvey, aimed at both ground-based performers and aerial dancers to develop ways of working together that will challenge your techniques, styles and processes. Find common ground in the 'space between' air and floor. The workshop will go towards creating choreography which will be shared at the end of the workshop. The emphasis will be on play as a creative tool; partnerships with the equipment, the space and each other.

Belly Dancing with Sophie Mei • 11am – 2pm (Women only) May 8 & June 19

Belly dance derives from Middle-Eastern folkloric dance and has rapidly grown from the East and is becoming increasingly popular amongst men and women in the West. Sophie Mei has trained extensively and quite literally ‘From Pitsmoor to the Pyramids.’ She is an established belly dance performer and has performed across the world and most famously reached the Live Semi-finals of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent 2008.

Mask with Phil Coggins • 11am – 4pm, May 30

Throughout the world masks are used for their expressive power as a feature of masked performance- both ritually and in various theatre traditions, in performance, we can enter into a new persona, try out characters, take risks, explore and create. Phil Coggins is an experienced performer and director who will work with people at their own level, no experience necessary.

Circus Taster Day • 11:30am – 2pm, May 29, July 31

Our Circus taster days are a great introduction to what you can do at Greentop Circus, including juggling, plate spinning, stilt walking, poi, diabolo and tight wire. Open to everyone, adults and kids, no experience necessary.

 

Juggling Launch Pad with Jay Gilligan and Wes Peden

Monday May 23rd - Wednesday May 25th
"The Juggling Launch Pad" will cover up to the minute, cutting edge, contemporary and experimental juggling techniques collected from all over the globe, with a concentration on Scandinavian trends. Additionally, traditional foundation-building basics will be incorporated for a well rounded experience. This workshop will teach concepts and ideas through small, accessible tricks that anyone can instantly learn. Juggling will be looked at in 3 areas- the objects, the body, and rhythm.

Aerial Dance with Gerry Turvey 11am – 4pm, June 12 - 13

A workshop aimed at ground-based performers and aerial dancers to develop way sof working together that will challenge your techniques, styles and processes. This fun and playful workshop will create choreography which will be shared at the end of the workshop.

Chinese Pole and Acrobalance with Richard Dunford •10am – 4pm, June 15 - 17

This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced students and will focus on Chinese pole and acrobalance, including: acrobatic balancing, adagio, dynamic tempo and classic Chinese pole moves, climbing styles and strength moves. The workshop is designed to be challenging and informative; participants will be taught at their level and will be encouraged to explore the equipment themselves. Taught by expert Chinese Pole and acrobalance performer Richard Durnford. 

Aerial Straps with Nikolaj Munk, 11am- 4pm, June 27

Acrobatics with Martha Harrison, 11am – 4pm, July 1

Martha Harrison is an ex National Gymnast from London. Having completed the Circus Degree at The Circus Space she now teaches both aerial and acrobatics across the UK. We will be looking at working with good technique at all levels and then will progress to understanding how to combine movement using differing levels and direction. We will also be working on handstands as a section of the day.

Doubles Trapeze with Martha Harrison • 10am - 4pm, July 28 - 30

Having completed the Degree Programme at The Circus Space, training as a doubles flyer, Martha has now had the opportunity to work in Varieté as a catcher, therefore this 3 day workshop should be suitable for anyone with a basic understanding of doubles trapeze work, catchers and flyers alike! We will look at the more traditional ways of catching and flying as well as combinations of movement and how to create moves and sequences for your self. You can come to the workshop either as an established pair or alone and therefore everybody should come willing to work with others. You will need at least 6 weeks static trapeze training if you have not trained doubles before, as it will be quite physically tiring.

Hand to Hand with Tuyo • 11am – 4pm, May 23

This one day workshop will focus on balance and tempo techniques, handstands, and acrobatic adagio skills. It is aimed at acrobats already working/practising regularly together as a duo who would like to increase both their skill level and repertoire. Pairs should be strong enough and confident enough together to be able to work on overhead and standing balances. Advanced participants will work on different entries into handstand and exits and throws from hand to hand. Less experienced duos will be able to learn good technique and how to practice safely to increase their skill level.

Professional-level Juggling with Sebastien Valade & Jon Udry • 10am – 4pm, May 31 -June 2

A three-day intensive course of workshops aimed at experienced and skilled performers who wish to gain professional tutoring from the very best teachers in the UK: Jon Udry and Sebastien Valade will be covering technique, passing, site-swap, dealing with drops with rings and balls and with club manipulation and performance energy. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new tips and tricks and be inspired about tricks you've long given up on.

German Wheel with Torwood Wheelers, 10am – 4pm • June 3 - 4

Come roll around on the German Wheel. This 2-day intensive is aimed at all levels and you will be able to work at your own pace. There will be all different sizes so you will be able to learn safely from highly-skilled and knowledgeable wheel artists. There are limited spaces so call to book on and secure a space.
