Greentop Confirms Arts Council Funding
Greentop has been notified by Arts Council England that we have been successful in our application to become part of the new National Portfolio. Not only have we retained this crucial core funding, but we have been awarded a large percentage increase, bringing our annual funding to a level which will fund us properly and allow us to develop ourselves and the circus skills sector.
In addition to this, last week Arts Council England awarded Greentop a grant from its ‘Grants for the Arts’ scheme for a new programme of work, ‘Circus North’, which will consolidate Sheffield’s status as a Circus City and Greentop’s role as a leading centre for circus arts education in the North.
Chief Executive Craig Gamble Pugh said:
“We welcome this astonishing and humbling recognition of the re-shaping and strategic development process Greentop has undergone, and of the crucial role of Circus in delivering ACE’s 10 year strategy of Achieving Great Art for Everyone. However, it is not a time for us to be complacent, many other organisations received cuts this week, and the arts in the UK are at risk of being decimated. As a successful organisation we have a responsibility to do what we can to make the case for proper investment in the arts.
We’ve had a tumultuous 10 days, and have achieved great success with the award of funds which will secure our future for the next 4 years and into the long term. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to the staff, trustees, artists, students, volunteers, and partner organisations who have supported the 2 year development process which has been challenging at times.
Having had this ringing endorsement of our work, the expectations upon us will now be enormous, and we will need to demonstrate that we are able to rise to the challenge and work in unity to deliver the goods. We will now continue the process of change and adapt in order to be fit to deliver these new responsibilities.”
