Jay Ruby founded The Carpetbag Brigade as an ensemble physical theatre in the small town of Prescott, Arizona in 1998. The company draws inspiration from such disparate physical vocabularies as Butoh, Circus and Contact Improvisation. Preparatory work includes core strength and balance building through the administration of exercises from Ashtanga yoga and Pilates. Specific stilt skills taught can include lifts, falls, partner exercises, still point encounters, stick work, groundwork, and geometrics. We will also be working with choreography, character and dynamic narrative structure.

This one day workshop will focus on balance and tempo techniques, handstands, and acrobatic adagio skills. It is aimed at acrobats already working/practising regularly together as a duo who would like to increase both their skill level and repertoire. Pairs should be strong enough and confident enough together to be able to work on overhead and standing balances. Advanced participants will work on different entries into handstand and exits and throws from hand to hand. Less experienced duos will be able to learn good technique and how to practice safely to increase their skill level.

A 4-day performance workshop for jugglers of all disciplines and experience levels, world famous Cirque du Soleil artiste, Donald Grant has been entertaining audiences around the world by throwing and catching things for over 20 years. Tighten up your street show, create a new number for a cabaret, a workshop aimed at breaking down your prejudices, opening up your potential as a performer. Areas covered include: escaping the juggling mentality, lessons to be learned from classic narrative structure, routine construction and skill selection, choosing and working with music, the professional side of show "business". Sebastien is an exceptionally original and talented French juggler, based in the UK (Bristol) performing both nationally and internationally. He has also collaborated with renowned companies such as Gandini Juggling or Underwarps Choreography. This 3-day intensive will present different innovative approaches to devising new juggling tricks and routines, exploring a wide range of concepts and techniques (contact, manipulation, multiplexes, siteswap, movement, performance and improvisation).

November 21st & 22nd ● 11am – 5pmThis is a great workshop for dancers, circus artists and aerial dancers to work together. During the two days we will create new ideas for working with aerial equipment. The emphasis will be on discovery and play as creative tools, the focus will be on finding new ways to work in and out of the ground, with encouragement to dive into unknown territories. This workshop will give you tools for new ways to create movement material, both on the ground and in the air. No previous experience of aerial work is necessary, just a good sense of your own physicality, and an ability to be playful with improvisation.

November 23rd – 26th ● 10am – 4pmKeland Scher has been teaching and performing for 10 years and recently completed two years as a full time Assistant Professor in Theatre and Movement in Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
By reconnecting with developmental patterns formed in childhood, combined with the innocence and pleasure of the clown nose along with the buffoon body mask, the artist learns there is comfort and joy in openly giving and receiving during performance. We allow our artist the freedom to find joy in the unknown. Playing in the unknown is how the magical, fantastic space between audience and artist is created.

Aerial Straps with Jamie Swann

Jamie is the aerial poster-boy at the Circus Space and has been teaching and performing all over the UK. This is a great opportunity to explore the unique aerial apparatus of the straps as well as improving your strength and air-sense. This is a workshop aimed at advanced aerialists with appropriate upper-body strength for this demanding discipline.
