Greentop's Youth Troupe showed Sheffield's Tramlines festival how they had achieved success 'By Any Means'. Beth Caudle, our talented freelance circus artist hosted Greentop's stall at the city centre event celebrating one year to the 2012 Olympics. She also worked with the Sheffield Youth Troupe helping them get their acts together for the event. Here is her personal perspective on the weekend.
By Beth Caudle, Youth Circus Tutor and Performer:
"It is always a pleasure to work with young people who are talented, cooperative and focussed. Greentop Youth Troupe rose to the challenge of performing in a new street theatre setting fantastically. They performed highly skilled acts, involving physical comedy, clowning, rola bola, juggling, uni-cycle and hula hoop on stilts! Between performing their acts the youth troupe joined professional performers from both Swamp and Greentop to parade down the 'By Any Means' olympic running track to the beat of Sheffield Samba Band. The young people and their parents said they had really enjoyed the experience and hope to have more opportunities to perform in the future.
Later in the day Delia Taffler and myself returned with some comedy street theatre as the Musical Zoologists. A ukulele ode to the “Animal Olympics” was sung as we were flown along the Olympic track in Pif-Paf theatre’s fantastical Fly Cycle.
Many thanks, to the parents of the youth troupe, the event organisers and the tutors and performers from both Swamp and Greentop. A great day was had by all!"
