When Lauren Cowdery first decided she wanted to be a teacher she never dreamt she would be working in a circus school! Now Greentop Circus is her new home and her job is to tempt as many people as possible – adults and kids – to go 'Back to School' with a difference this term.
From supporting tutors, enrolling students, and promoting the Youth Crcus, Lauren is now the go-to girl in Sheffield for anyone who wants to learn the exciting skills of the circus ring.
“Greentop has loads to offer, no matter what your age or ability”, says Lauren. “There is loads of cool stuff to have a go at, like acrobatics, trapeze, juggling and stilt walking. I can’t wait to try it all and I really want Sheffielders to join me!”
At Greentop, 'Back to School' includes adults and kids alike- for the grown ups there are evening classes and weekend workshops in a range of activities for all members of the public, taught by experienced circus tutors who help you realise your dreams and conquer fears through learning circus skills.
For young people there is the regular Sheffield Youth Circus and Youth Trapeze and Aerial. If you are aged 8 to 18 you can join them and learn loads of new skills, meet like-minded young people and get the chance perform in circus shows.
Lauren adds: “I am really excited about working with the Sheffield Youth Circus. Coming from a teaching background this is close to my heart and I passionately believe in the power of creativity and play to help children develop and grow. This is one of the longest established Youth Circuses in the country and the tutors are brilliant so join us as we go back to circus school!”
