Who we are
Greentop Circus is a registered charity (reg: 1054722) and a registered company (reg: 3185290). We are a social enterprise so that all the income we receive goes back into the organisation.
Our vision and mission means we are comitted to providing a professional and affordable training space for the circus community, local people and the general public to enable them to develop as circus performers.
Greentop receives some grant funding from various sources for specific projects. We are partially funded by the Arts Council of England, with whom we are a Regularly Funded Organisation (RFO).
The remainder of our funding comes primarily from income from our entertainment agency, team building training, circus workshops, evening classes, weekend workshops, donations, membership fees and hire of our building.
From humble beginnings as a community circus project, we have grown to become one of the biggest Social Enterprises in Sheffield, due to our emphasis on sustainable development, a lot of hard work and the passionate commitment of our staff and volunteers. We remain connected to the communities in which we work, delivering many workshops in schools and community centre in deprived areas throughout the year - a programme of work we are fully committed to.
The Greentop Centre is the only circus centre in the Yorkshire region and as such we are providing a valuable resource for everyone interested in circus. We have the only custom-fitted trapeze rig in the region and are able to provide a wide range of professional equipment for people to use.
Greentop is managed by a small but dedicated team of people led by the Chief Executive, who between them cover the operational, marketing, financial and wider business administration of the organisation as well as youth povision, entertainment and cabarets, volunteer liasion and the Sheffield Youth Circus.
Greentop has a Board of Trustees who are responsible for high-level decision making, they are all volunteers and donate their time for free. They come from diverse backgrounds and all bring a wealth of experience that helps Greentop grow and prosper.
There are a number of volunteers who help run some evening classes and weekend workshops, as well as key assistance in running shows and cabarets, youth circus, marketing and promotions. We are always looking for new volunteers.
Greentop works with hundreds of professional artists and tutors as a centre for their reherasals and training as well as providing them with employment opportunities that can be local, national and increasingly global.
